Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

Gallaudet University Press is a vital, self-supporting member of the Gallaudet educational and scholarly community. The mission of the Press is to disseminate knowledge about deaf and hard of hearing people, their languages, their communities, their history, and their education through print and electronic media.

Goals

To carry out its mission, the Press has established the following goals.

1. The Press will publish new or revised books each year that relate to issues that are important to Gallaudet University and the deaf community.

Indicator: At least 8 new or revised books will be published in FY 2008.

2. The Press will increase its presence in the electronic publishing marketplace.

Indicator: Sales of DVD, CD, etc. will increase by 5% in FY 2008.

3. The Press will publish scholarly journals.

Indicator: Circulation of Sign Language Studies and American Annals of the Deaf through subscription and dissemination by Project Muse will be maintained.

4. Gallaudet University scholars and students will publish in Press media.

Indicator: The Press cannot control this outcome but will encourage scholarly publishing by Gallaudet scholars in book, journal, and electronic forms. Counts of the numbers of such publications will be maintained and published in FY 2008.

5. Press books, DVDs, CDs, journal articles, and other products will be used in Gallaudet University classrooms.

Indicator: The Press cannot control this outcome but will encourage use of its products in the classroom. Counts of the numbers of such use will be maintained and published in FY 2008.

6. The Press will finish each fiscal year with a net positive balance with respect to direct expenses.

Indicator: The Press will post a positive balance between net revenues and direct expenses in FY 2008.
