Marketing and Sales Activities

Our goal is to connect your book with interested readers. To that end, we will engage in the following marketing activities for new books:

A rectangular table with a navy blue tablecloth that reads Gallaudet University Press. On top of the table are several books, faced out.

Inclusion in seasonal catalogs. All new books will appear in at least three GU Press catalogs (as a new release, recent release, and backlist title).

Homepage placement. Your book will live on our homepage for about a year, from its pre-publication announcement through publication and beyond.

Website listing. Your book will have an information/order page on our website for the life of the book. This page includes ancillary marketing materials including the table of contents, an excerpt, and review quotes.

Digital marketing. All new books are announced in our monthly eblasts and on our social media platforms. We also use these platforms to support author events, post video content related to the book, and share book reviews and other news.

Seasonal promotions. Your book will be included in calendar-based promotions such as our annual Deaf History Month sale.

Review outreach. We contact journals and other relevant media to submit new books for review consideration.

Awards. We are happy to assist with submitting your book for awards, and we can send an allotted number of copies to award committees, but we must ask authors to cover any submission fees. In addition, awards are submitted at the discretion of GU Press. Thank you for understanding.

Events. We offer support for events that includes coordinating with event organizers to ensure they have books (we offer a 40% author event discount), providing flyers, and helping with promotions through our newsletter and social media. For virtual events, we can offer a special discount code for attendees that can be mentioned in the event and posted in the chat. Unfortunately we are not positioned to plan or pitch events; authors are responsible for organizing their own events.

Conferences. GU Press exhibits at a limited number of conferences each year. Relevant books are featured onhand for sale at a conference discount. If you are presenting at a conference about your book, we can support with flyers (including a discount code), presentation slides, and display copies.

Exam copies. We have an examination copy program that allows instructors to order a copy of a book at no charge to review it for possible inclusion in their syllabus.

Online retailers. Our metadata distribution enables your title to be listed at all major online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Bookshop.org.
